Pueblan Milk Genetics

Fabrizio13 May 10, 2012 01:36 AM

My brother just got a nice juvie apricot pueblan from a friend, and I decided to help him breed it. I just have a few questions on genetics for this species.

Fist, how exactly are the oreo and apricot genes passed on? Is it a line bred thing? Or just a unstable natural morph?

Also, is hypo the only recessive gene in this species? I would like to breed for a hypo Oreo or hypo Halloween, really just as a "Can I do it?" type of thing than a business venture, lol.

The Oreo,Halloween, and Sockhead are all pattern mutations that are line bred. There is no simple recessive genes for them. I am currently working with a Co-dom Halloween animal that came from over seas. I should know more at the end of this breeding season.

Hypo seems to be the only recessive gene as we know right now in the hobby. There has been albino pop up but they are more than likely hybrids as far as I know. Some still think the hypo gene is from another ssp. also.

Here's a pic of a hypo oreo I produced last year, so it is possible to produce. I haven't seen any good Hypo Halloweens yet.

Thanks for the reply. That is seriously the only straight answer I've heard or found on the subject, so I really appreciate that.

But that's a very nice snake, but I'll get to work on that hypo halloween lol Has that co-dom been proven, or are you still in the process of finding out? Would you be willing to post some pics?

Also, I need to find a breeder of pueblans, the only one I've found is BHB. Everybody else who sells them seem like online petshops, and I rather get them straight from the breeder. I'm looking to get more pueblans for a project by the end of this year.

Thanks! Yes the Co-dom has been proven over seas but I haven't yet. This is the first year breeding so maybe in a few months I will know more. I will take some pics today, and post them for you I do have just this one right now. Can't see much.
