First Time Mother on Mother's Day

KcTrader May 13, 2012 09:32 AM

Well my Calking finally decided to lay today, usually all my snakes lay roughly at 7 days but she took 11. This was her first year breeding, so far 2 out. Here's a rough set of pics laying her second egg, but thought it was pretty cool to be able to watch the whole process. Again sorry for the blurry photo's but they were taken through the bottom of the tub.

Cool progression shots there Jimmy!. What type is she, and what was she bred with?

Thanks Joe, yea that is actually the first time I actually had time to sit down and watch any of my snakes lay a couple of eggs.( Usually it's either early morning before work or late night when I am ready for bed) Camera in one hand cup of coffee in the other. What was great, she was the top tub so I could sit right underneath and watch. She laid a nice healthy clutch of 7. So pretty happy.

I know what you mean about discovery eggs. I checked on my Jani yesterday and she had not had her pre lay shed or anything so I was only checking on her every other day or so. Well, when I looked for her I found her inside her "cereal box" hide with 15 eggs inside her coils!!! WTF.. Anyway, I hope they are okay. They were not dried out or anything. LOL

Wow, that's crazy! No prelay shed, don't hear about to any of those. I have a bunch that didn't go through post brumation shed, but never had one not have a prelay shed. I have had infertile eggs laid the same day as the prelay shed though.... Good thing you caught it in time. Good luck with them too...

Doug, Just a plain ole desert phase Calking bred to a plain ole desert phase Calking. And to think people don't breed plain ole Calkings, anymore. LOL I wish I had a pair of locality ones but unfortunately not. She was originally my 7 yr old pet snake, and then she traded her to me for some money for something else can't remember what though. So I had to get male for her last year. Anyway that's the story behind her......

Ah, okay,.....certainly nothing wrong with that, Jimmy..LOL!

Wouldn't that be insane if you got a VERY unexpected leucistic hatchling in the clutch after expecting to get everyday typical hatchlings..HAHAHAA!!

You know what, I would probably be pissed off! I like them just as they are, and to think another white snake in the hobby! LMAO!!!! Would you pay 5K for it?
-----

DMong May 13, 2012 04:19 PM

Yeah, but being the ONLY leucistic of it's kind with normal colored eyes is very different than all the other countless pale amel and lavender white snakes. Lets say it had some black freckles then like Soderberg's "Palmetto" corns..LOL!

I do agree to a great degree with you on the "oh, another white snake in the hobby" though..LOL!!

Well, I couldn't BEGIN to afford 5k, but others would definitey snatch it up.

You do make some valid points there Doug, a nice dalmatian cal king would be cool and if it was inheritable would even be better. If it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all, so the dream of producing the first of something is kinda like dreaming of winning the 70 million dollar lottery....LOL....In the mean time I will continue to do it the old fashion way...Line Breed!

I don't think I've ever seen eggs laid from that angle, lol. Cool shots for sure, Jimmy!

Thanks Jorge, As I was telling Joe this was the first time I got to actually view them in the process, and had front row seat. Kids enjoyed it too! Now comes the long 60 day wait...
