bel questions...

geckoejon May 15, 2012 05:43 AM

hello, just looking for a little info on blue eye leucistics.

first, which combo do you think makes the cleanest white bel?

second, if i had pastel on a combo, would it detract from the clean white appearance? for expample... a pastel lesser to a mojo?

are all the bels compatible? if i got a bel (lesser x mojo) is it compatible with all other bels and or a butter?

thanks...
jonathan

any pics would be greatly appreciated as well

I believe the Butter/Lessers are the cleanest but they all vary in whiteness. Yes, the Pastel will add some yellow to the Luecy but not a whole lot. All Blue eyes are compatible...Mojo, Mystic, Lesser, Butter, Russos...not a 100% on Mochas tho. The cool thing about a dual gene super like a BEL (mojo x lesser) is you will get a mix of the two but the downfall is when you breed him/her to another BEL complex you wont always know the genetics.

No, the pastel gene is not visible in the super white BEL's, but is visible in the super mojo. I have produced both.

I always thought that Russos make the whitest BELs

Thanks for the feedback.

Another question for you all.....

Can you have a triple gene bel? For example, if you have a bel (lesser x butter) and cross it with a mojo, will it make a bel that carries all 3 genes? Or would it be a bel that is possible het for all 3 genes? Thanks....

Each of the leucistics can only be a combo of two genes. From your example you would get lesser/mojaves and butter mojaves. I don't think you could tell what was what without breeding them out.

These are all alleles of the same gene. Because you only have 2 copies of a chromosome (normally) you can only have 2 alleles.

So a butter x Lesser BEL crossed with a mojo could produce:

Lessers (lesser gene from BEL and normal gene from mojo),
Butters (butter gene from BEL and normal gene from mojo),
Butter x Mojo BELs,
and Lesser x Mojo BEL.

Any BEL baby would carry the Mojo gene.
