Here's a huge clutch.....

KcTrader May 18, 2012 08:39 AM

for a mountain king any way. This female laid a nice clutch of 11 good eggs this morning.....She didn't produce any good eggs the past 2 years and surely made up for that today!I switched up the male this year so I am sure that helped this out too. Considering that the previous male fathered to other clutches this year and they were all slugs also....

Great! Glad you got such a nice clutch, especially after 2 bad years with her. Hope they all hatch for you.

Nice Jimmy! I counted 10 at least. They look good too!

There is one hidden in the very front bottom of the clutch. There is 11 there almost as big as my 2010 clutch of 12 from my big Osborne line female who once again looks to be loaded with eggs.

Actually that is Hatchrite this year, same stuff. I used super hatch for the past three years but I didn't think I would have enough for all my clutches so I decided to try Hatchrite. Heard some good things about it.

Thanks John, how long have you been using Hatchrite and do you add any extra water to it when you set the eggs up? What has been your hatch rate on Hatchrite? I have heard most everybody say between 85 and 95% hatch rate. As I do know there are a lot of variables to consider when coming to this outcome.

This will be my third year using it.......
I never really calculated a hatch rate........
I wish the fertility rate was 85 to 95% then I could definitely hatch more....lol

Oh yea....I forgot to answer all of the questions.....

I do add some water I always think it is too dry out of the bag......
And I don't calculate how much. I just add a little until it clumps better.....but I'm sure added water really isn't needed.......

I hear you there, this year for sure not as bad as last but still not great. Talpalpa ruthveni slugged out along with 3 knob females and my double het gentilis. The knobs, I used the same male as last year and I think he is just shooting blanks or is not compatible with those females. I will try him on a total different female next year and see how he does. I do have 8 plus good clutches incubating now though....That's more than I had all year last year!

That's not even touching the amount of knobs I may have this year. Candy cane female (4 good eggs) Het Candy cane female (4 good eggs) Buzz Ross female (2 good eggs) Type II high black(one pictured below( 7 good eggs)) Type II low black(one in above post( 11 good eggs)) and 5 females left to lay. One of those females laid 12 eggs in 2010. So yes I may have a ton of knobs. Some of the last females are from the Old Dave Barker line that produces aberrant patterns and also some from Osborne line Hypomelanistic.

High Black Type II

pyromaniac May 19, 2012 09:03 PM

Love that high black! Don't see those as often as the low blacks.

So do I! I bred her to this nice high black male too....He is just a regular type III but I am really anticipating that clutch will produce some great high black animals. That female actually has a striped ventral. It's pure white in the center with two black lines on either side....60 days seems to long but with all the other projects it'll go by quick....

Will be looking forward to pics of those babies in a couple months!

Congrats Jimmy!! Knobs (from I have experienced) seem much easier to get started then az pyros. Good luck with them bro.

Joe

KcTrader May 19, 2012 06:53 AM

Thanks Joe, I have had the same experience with knobs too. Usually about 70 to 80% of the hatchlings take F/T or live pinks right away. I hatched 20 in 2010 and 16 took to pinks and of those, 13 ate F/T first meal. In 2011 I hatched 7 and 5 took to pinks right away and of those, 3 ate F/T first meal. This year I am looking forward to better percentages or a true reading because I have more eggs than the last 2 years combined. I really don't understand why the are not more popular as a mountain king, but hey I like every one I have and ever owned.
