Cypress Mulch question

I have a question for everyone about substrate for my black pines..Would cypress mulch be safe to use? They are currently on aspen.

i would worry that cypress would keep the humidity too high. i use cypress for some of my pythons (ball and GTP) but keep all my pits on aspen.
