How to handle easily stressed Beardies?

georgio Oct 04, 2003 08:32 PM

My little male peach hypo Alien (Coral's younger brother) has always been easily stressed. He runs around frantically when you go to pick him up and is easily spooked even after having him out of the cage. How would you guys recommend dealing with him? Should I refrain from handling him until he's older so as not to stress him out or handle him frequently to help him get over his skittishness? Have any of you had skittish young dragons turn out to be fine adults?

me of Myst when I hold her, she hates me as I am the other woman that takes her "Axe" away from her at times.

For your skittish dragon, just try to hold him at night when he is ready for bed wrapped in a small towel or washrag. This gives him a sense of security and you can rub and massage his back through it... they tense up when scared and he will find this pleasant and relaxing with lowered lights and does off... in time he will come to asociate you with good things and not such scary things........ dragons love being wrapped up and hiding... but make sure he can see you and that it is you holding him and massaging him

Thanks to both of you, I'll give your advice a try. What the forum would do without you guys I just don't know. Thanks for helping me and so many other beardie owners out!

If I looked that good, I'd think I was too good to be handled, too! LOL!
