Rabbit vs. Guine Pig feeders

sssssnakes May 23, 2012 04:43 PM

A friend of mine has always feed his large boa rabbits. However for some reason, they have become unavailable from his source, so be bought a couple of guine pigs instead.

I was wondering, is there any nutritional value difference between the two. I know there is a chance the boa may not feed on the GP because it smells different

I could never do it because their to much like a dog or other more advanced animal than rabbits (the dumbest mammel on earth brain wise) or rats that are smart but RATS! You ever see a guine pig pinky? ....There is no such thing! Their born about a third the size as the mother, fully haired, and aware of their world. And what a face! Cant do it, and what ever you do dont tell anyone from Europe! I did feed a Hognose a sented beany weeny once, and I had a Cotton Mouth eat a rodent lab block once when I put him in a empty mouse cage! Then again I saw a Gardersnake trying to eat a flattened dryed out toad-on-the-road jurky! Just my buck three eleven's worth. Not counting the Black Racers that puked up live snakes! Snakes are weird, maybe it would eat a sented pot roast! VM

I used to have a huge diamond/carpet female (almost 9 1/2'), that would only eat Guinea pigs.the only downside is price, really.they would be safer than rabbits, as far them clawing at the snake trying to get away

I have recently switched my yellow anacondas over from jumbo rats to XXXXL GP’s and before doing so I asked the same thing. The information I found out from the experts that I consulted was just that the Guinea Pigs are a higher in fat so be careful with how much you offer or how often you offer. I was feeding 3 jumbo rats every week and when I went to the Guinea Pigs I feed 1 XXXXL GP each snake every 2 weeks. I tried to do F/T Rabbits and had little luck but the moment I offered the Guinea Pigs they didn’t hesitate to feed.
Overall besides the fat ratio the Guinea Pigs are fine to use. Rodent pro also has a breakdown of the nutritional values of rodents if you would like that. I definitely wouldn’t ever offer live but you already covered that you weren’t so that not is for anyone thinking of feeding live.
They get a thumbs up from me!
I am feeding 3 yellow anacondas and my roommate is feeding 1 green anaconda the Guinea Pigs without problems.
Best of luck,
Anthony

Thanks, it’s still got one more session left but only about 1-1.5 hours for the final. So far it’s been 2 sessions at 3.5 hours per session and its coming out better than even I expected.

Ha, ya I know they can, so I have been told… the worst my pair has ever done is just scratch me when climbing on/off of me.
