No Pre-lay Shed

Seeves1982 May 24, 2012 11:04 PM

Hey guys,

I was just wondering what might be going on. My snake had an ovulation around mid April which should have put her Pre lay shed around may 14th, but I haven't seen it yet. I've read that not all snakes do a Pre lay shed all the time and I was just kind of wondering what might be going on. I'm not freaking out or anything. Just curious and wanting to learn. Could she just be cooking the eggs a little longer cause temps are a little too low for her? Or is it possible that she isn't going to this year and she's reabsorbing? Or is it possible that she just isn't going to have a prelay shed and I could still expect the eggs mid June? Also I was wondering how often does it happen that a snake does not have a prelay shed? She is still acting gravid, cold seeking, looking plump, not eating, and my male is no longer interested in her. Just seeing what you thought.

Thanks

Snakes do not re-absorbe their eggs...if they are gravid, they have to lay them...

Once they ovulate there is no turning back...they can re-asorb folicles but not eggs...as far as I know there is always a shed.
I have two females that both shed 30-35 days after the shed...yes I said shed after the shed...theres always a shed
