I had a juvenile female drop 9 slugs (all dried up by the time I saw them) and she has never been in with a male and wasn't cooled this winter. Just wanted to ask how common it is for females to lay duds like that.

Never bred hognoses but I've heard of that happening with other snakes... Cool her this winter and give her a mate next year.

While not a juvenile, I have one adult female that will drop slugs almost every year whether I put a male in with her or not. Unfortunately, she's never laid a fertile clutch in the several years I've been tried to breed her despite being paired with proven males.
