so i feed my red tail boa every week. he is only about 3 to 4 months old. i have him eating live hopper mice. today i tried feeding him a rat hopper and he showed absolutely no interest. he has always been a good eater. he humidity and temp levels are good. no mites. so could it just be that it was his first interaction with a rat and if so how should i go about getting him to eat rats?
thanks for any advice.

How do they compare in size? The best way to get the snake to switch is prolly frozen thawed, you could put a rat pup/pink in a bag with mouse hoppers, try to get the mouse scent on it. If you do that, you could also put the snake in sterilite shoe box, put in a closet with prey item inside the box, just put some holes in the sides of the box for ventilation. The darkness will help them feel secure and the scent will help get there attention. Good luck!

The rat hopper was a larger then the mouse hopper but not much larger. I feed him in a sterilite tub in my room with not much lite. I will try feeding him frozen thawed iv just always fed him live because thats what the place i ot him from fed him and he has never not eatin.

Boas don't usually discriminate, at least mine don't. they'll eat whatever, whenever

I would get the boa eating frozen thawed rodents as soon as possible. As the snke grows and eats larger rodents FT is much safer to feed. Also I strongly recommend feeding the snake inside his cage. Bill

Let the animal set indesturbed for one week
Intro rat prey from then on , never offer another mouse.
Never force the event, if you can't draw a strike and the animal refuses to eat after acouple hrs just blow it off and try again a week later.
Trimming fur off the mouse for scenting is by far the best.
Patience on your part is very important.

NEVER touch the animal with a prey offering!!

Is it possible your boa is blue and ready to shed?
