Eagles Nest alterna clutch

Dniles May 27, 2012 06:32 PM

Although I am more of a triangulum kind of guy, I sure do appreciate other lampros, including alterna. Here is a clutch of alterna - 9 eggs from Eagles Nest locality animals. I got the alterna phase female from Ric Blair and the blairs phase male from Jason Nelson (from Ric Blair) in a trade. This is my first time producing alterna.

Very nice Dave. There ought to be some nice youngsters coming out of those eggs in a couple of months.

Thanks Jimmy. I am having a pretty good season. The amaura clutch and these alterna are a first for me so its always fun to hatch out something for the first time.

How are your projects going? Did those gentilis ever double for you?

"its always fun to hatch out something for the first time."

It sure is! I have a bunch of first timers this season. My mex mex which laid a nice clutch of 8. Then I thought my het hypo greeri was going to be a little small yet, but she looks to be gravid. Keeping fingers crossed. Celaenops will also be a first. And believe it or not, nelsoni will also be a first for me also. I have hatched out sinaloae before but never nelsoni. I was hoping my pyro pyro would lay eggs this year but it looks to be a no go for them again. My year is doing extremely well for projects, plenty of knoblochi eggs and some locale milks. Hopefully I can produce some candy canes knoblochi from 11 hopeful eggs. Last year I did 80 hatchlings and threw away 100 plus slugs. This year I have over 100 eggs and only threw away 50 slugs.

Hey how's that hypo calligaster project doing?

sounds like you're having one hell of a year too man! I'm looking forward to plenty of pics from you, especially those mex mex. Post some of the adults if you can.

They hypo caligaster project is going well. I will post a series on it soon. I sent my male hypo to Mitch and it bred his hypo female and they produced 2 clutches (well one is on the ground and she is gravid again). His female never throws big clutches so we got 4 good eggs from the first clutch and she is about to lay again any day. Will keep you posted - keep looking for a post soon...

It just simply does not get any better than that Dave!
WOW!!!

Great snakes there!

Makes me kinda regret getting rid of the male Eagle's Nest I had over 10 years ago.

Clean and bright. Perfect specimens!

I'm not very familiar with all the locales there, but is that near where the hwy 277 animals are found? They sure look like it.

Disclaimer: I do keep several snakes in pairs, and some in groups. However I realize that things can go wrong, and I have to keep a close eye on those groups, to be sure they are not being adversely affected by these living conditions. Also if one happens to eat it's cagemate, it is 100% my fault, and I know the risks in advance!
