A couple trips, and a new rating

waspinator421 May 31, 2012 10:41 AM

Evidence to my lack of attention to this forum, I have been doing a lot more flying lately.

Last month I placed a decent sized order with RodentPro and the shipping came out to over $200. So, instead of paying FedEx to bring to to me, I thought why not more than triple the cost and use that money toward flight time? So I flew out and picked up the order in person! It was a fun trip, though I had to dodge a few developing thunderstorms on the way home.

Here's the plane sitting on the ramp in Evansville, IN.

Had to get these pics of my car next to the plane when I got back. Man those heavy boxes are awkward to get in and out of a small plane, lol!

Went on another trip this past weekend in the good old Piper Arrow: Traverse City, Michican. Took the short-cut over Lake Michigan, so had to pack water survival gear in case the plane went down. Man that is a big lake!

Upon arrival, we got top of the line service! Rental car met us on the ramp and had two line men tie it down and help us unload. Setting a good impression as I've worked at an FBO for 6 years and know what service should be like. Unfortunately at many FBOs, the small planes don't get treated nearly as well as the biz jets.

The purpose of this trip was for me to get trained in a multi-engine airplane. Long story short, I got my rating! So now I am a Commercial Multi, Instrument rated pilot!! Woo!

Here is the 1950s Piper Apache that I did my training in:

Despite the absolute gorgeous scenery up there, I didn't get hardly any pictures. I was so busy and worn out that I either didn't have the time, or didn't have the energy. I wish I would have taken more pics, especially when we shut down one engine in flight... that was so weird! Oh well, at least I have the memories!

Very cool Aubrey

Is this an expensive hobby or are you planning a career as a pilot?

Great pics and FYI, I love your car!!!

Thanks John! I was on the fence for a long time regarding what I wanted to do with flying. In the last year or so, I've had some amazing opportunities to fly larger aircraft. Here are a couple pics of a trip I took in a Pilatus PC-12 a few months back:

The real kick in the pants was when I got an incredibly rare chance to fly my absolute favorite plane... the Falcon 50!! Here is a pic google was kind enough to share so you know what it looks like:

Getting some hands-on time in these larger and faster airplanes rekindled my passion for flying. It was a glimpse into a possible future, so I got the ball rolling on continuing my training.

Hopefully someday I'll get to fly a Falcon 50 again, and if things go well, it will be my career.

Awesome to hear you're following your dream and making clear progress. What are your ultimate goals? Commercial pilot in those plans?

Well, technically I already am a "commercial" pilot... though I'm sure you mean airlines, lol!!

I definitely do not want to fly for airlines. I'd much rather be a glorified taxi or limo driver than a glorified bus driver. Different airplanes, different destinations!

Good point, best of luck becoming a glorified limo driver (sounds better than taxi driver)

Aubrey,
You are amazing. I love that your reptile car is pink! As a girl, I love pink and the reptiles contend with my inherently girly desire for it. Kudos on melding the two together!
My hero!

Haha! Thanks Jess! Yes, I am also a lover of Pink, especially when it hangs out with Black. I also like things that are ridiculous, so the design was perfect for me!

Here is the car with some better lighting:

Very nice car design and great you have a new rating in piloting. Now all you need now is to get one of those Falcon 50's sporting your business logo/colors

Thanks Cliff! I'd be happy to personally fly snakes to people, though I don't think most would want to pay the $500-$2000 shipping rate, lol!

Thanks Cynthia! I wish I could fly to all the expos that I'd like to see. Such as the ones in California and out East. At $112/hour for the Arrow, I can't really afford it.
