patternless het hypo hondo with clutch

RandyWhittington Jun 04, 2012 09:19 PM

This is the first clutch from a patternless normal het hypo hondo project I've been working on for about 12 years. The mother in the photo is only het hypo and not hypo. It's not a project that's worth much of anything except to me but I really like the patternless, only het hypo tangerine look.
I don't work on these types of projects in general but found this one interesting. It took quite a bit of selective breeding to get to this point.

I have one other almost patternless het hypo female about to lay also. Both were bred to a patternless hypo from the same lines.

At this point I'm hoping for at least a couple of het hypo hatchlings that only have the jet black head markings and no other pattern when they hatch.

The mother (pictured) had a slight bit of pattern on the lower body when she hatched but has lost all of it as she has grown, only leaving the tipping between where the bands would usually be. There were some hypos in the clutch she hatched out of but her head markings were JET black right out of the egg and still are.

Glad you're still working with your vanishing line.

Projects don't have to be worth much monetarily, they just have to be worth your interest.

I look forward to seeing what you produce this year, keep us posted.

Very Nice!

Thanks Rusty. I'll post some shots when they hatch.

I assume your breeding those extremes again this year?
I remember what I think was the first year Jeff A. produced and had those at Daytona. Shannon showed us a male tricolor at Rick and Becky's table that he had just gotten from Jeff. That was one freaky looking hondo!!!

Love that Extreme Hondo Randy!

Yes, I'm continuing to outcross Terry M.'s Mega line ( via Jeff A., via Terry Dunham).

I have a bunch of unproven female virgins that I'm pairing him with and so far two appear very gravid and I hope the other two will follow suit!

The first one is a Ghost 50% Het Amel (from herby07), pic as a neonate:

The second one is an amazing vanished Falcon line Extreme, on loan from Don Shores, my wife unofficially named her "Zoro":

I hope this clutch will show some of the differences between the Mega and Falcon Extreme Hypo lines. Either way, I expect to produce some very pinbanded hondos from this clutch!

The third one is another amazing looking Hondo, a primo example of a Pinbanded Ghost, on loan from Doug Mong (Marc Bailey Line):

The fourth one is an incredible looking Snow, 50% Het Hypo / 25% Triple Homo/Pearl that I got from Bruce Skipper at Daytona in 2010:

She's big enough to breed, but maybe not old enough, so this pairing is a long shot.

I'm using this male Mega Tricolor Het Snow to all the above mention females:

I'm also trying to breed my Triple Homo/ Pearl to a proven Hypo Het Snow female. That pairing is a long shot as well due to his young age (also hatched in 2010):

This is the proven female:

Should be a great year!

I would like to see some babies from him and the falcon line extreme patternless from Don. Mixing the real light extreme gene from the mega line with the clean falcon line to clean up the heavy tipping of the mega line could make for some very interesting hatchlings. Then again the fact that their hypo gene is so light yet they are so heavily tipped is what I always thought made the mega line look so unique from the beginning. That was the first thing I recognised when I saw the one Shannon had just got from Jeff all those years ago.

I agree on what you're saying about the Megas being much more tipped up.

That Falcon Extreme from Don has got every Hondo "hypo" gene that I know of:

Pinbanded Pattern Hypo Reduction - check

Super Light Hypo-Pigment - check

Vanished Hypo Pattern - check

The Mega Tricolor male has Vanishing Hypo Genes for sure, so I expect to have a few that look very similar to your Vanished Het Hypos.

Here's one of his offspring from 2010:

I would really like to see a "normal" pop out of the clutch, I think that would be very interesting indeed.

Either way, it's probably my most anticipated clutch regarding the Mega line; my fingers are crossed.

Awesome Rusty!

No doubt at that you will be producing some great looking offspring with those pairings.

Can't wait to see what you come up with buddy!...

Randy, congrats man. Those are some long eggs! How big is that girl?

Joe

RandyWhittington Jun 05, 2012 07:53 AM

Thanks. They are long but not as big as they look. She is only in the 700-800 gram range so it makes them look bigger than they are. I was suprised she did lay a total of 7 eggs in the end as small as she is and with it being her first year producing.

i'm on crack too. look at what just laid for me. i really needed another clutch of cherry county babies btw, beautiful hondurans!

RandyWhittington Jun 05, 2012 07:58 AM

Thanks Billy and John.

Post some pics of those when they hatch John. Cherry Co. pales are without a doubt one of the nicest looking milks right out of the eggs.

Cool project Randy. I know you have been working on that a while and you've gotten some great results from it. Can't wait to see what the babies look like this year!!

Thanks Dave. I hope to clean up the tipping some with the next generation or two but the tipping in between where the bands would be makes them look cool too.

That gal is really sweet, Randy. As I recall you produced some really nice hondos last year. Can't wait to see what comes of this clutch for you.

Very nice Randy!

You definitely don't see many nice vanished phenotypes like that out there that aren't also hypomelanistic.

...cool projects. I'm sure you will produce some stellar vanished hypos from that line too.

Here is a photo of a vanishing pattern het hypo from the same line who is in her pre egg laying shed now. She has kept some of her pattern but is cleaner than the patternless female.
