DIY Rack designs anywhere?

OnceAHero Oct 05, 2003 12:28 AM

As you have no doubt noticed by now I'm somewhat of a novice at all things dealing with leopard breeding. I'm good friends with an apprentice carpenter who has agreed to build me a rack system to any design I desire for free and I'm wondering if anyone knows of any rack designs on the web? If not, could you please explain to me how exactly back heating should be set up in a rack system, and what materials I need?

It's got heat on each shelf, which I like more if I can get it; my Boaphile rack and my hatchling rack have it down the back which works well also.

You don't really need to be a carpenter to do this, but I"m sure he could build you a really nice version. Good luck and post pictures/instructions when you're done.

You really should. I had some $ earlier this year, so I bought a Boaphile sideways blanket box rack, and it's great, but you could build this one for half the price. If size/weight aren't a concern, give this one a go. If you're not sure about the electronics, make sure you have someone to check them for you so you don't cause a fire or blow some fuses. I did it, though and I've never had a class on that stuff; just read a lot.

On the other hand, I haven't price-compared them yet, but those Animal Plastics racks look awesome and I've heard great things about them so far.

Good luck.

The actual rack i think i can do without any huge difficulties. I'm currently waiting for the money to build a unit that will hold all but two of my tanks. I've also built another unit that holds all of my 10 gallons. The heating thing is whats got me a bit concerned. I'm on fuses (can't wait to buy my own house with breakers LOL) and i'm pretty well maxed out on what i can have plugged in. I have no clue about heat tape so i'm going to have to research up a ton before i even attempt anything.

Thankyou for the instructions, i'll do my best
