I was out on the back patio just a few minutes ago, and suddenly noticed this Black Racer (C.c.priapus)going from the grass up the base of this small tree in search of one of their favorite menu items in the Florida area,..Brown Anoles. As it was moving about in "hunt-mode" I slowly walked up to it so it didn't spook and catured a couple photos of it casually doing it's thing. Right about as I was getting just a tad closer, it noticed me and froze, so I took the shots in case it bolted off as they are very known for doing..
I've seen a fair number on this barrier Island in the past, along with a VERY unique looking DOR cornsnake as I walked my little dog very late one night. It was really sad to see because apparently it was killed not long before I saw it on the curb where ants were beginning to gather heavily on it.
The Racer isn't anything to write home about, but as many of us know, any wild snake is nice to see...
