Oh that does look like a nice one!
What is it?
Looks like is it a recessive trait like hypo.
or is a captive release?
or could it be a new recessive trait?
Whatever it is, can you get some real nice pics from your friend to post here?
Need some better pics!

It is living back in the wild, that's why today sucks!

Oh my.
Well i was excited because there is the possibility that it was a new morph and not just a hypo.
Is there a way you can go to where he released it?
Did he release where he found it?
If so, the other Floridas in that vicinity might be gene carriers (hets).

What i saw in the pic that got me interested is his head. It is dark . Regular hypos have a light head. Makes me think this could very well be a new recessive trait.

It's only a hour from me, I must have that thing. It's not a released snake, itS out in the horse sticks. I put the bounty on it already.

Well its weird it would be on Cocoa beach. Hypos did not originate from there.

Not to get a blood bath going here (hopefully), but what's weird about it?. Why would that specimen have to have anything to do with today's hypo strain or where they originated from?. Mutants can pop up anywhere at any time, and obviously that was the case with that awesome mutant. I'm pretty certain that is definitely a one-of-a-kind unigue strain that happened to be found. It's definitey not like the south Florida hypo strain as we both know. I agree, the head and even the wider symmetrical cross-bands and very faded look pretty much prove that to me, don't you agree?.

It would probably be a challenge to even come up with a normal in that area.
-----

There are/were some very light populations of kingsnakes in Central Florida. A lot lighter than any brooksi. Not very different than that snake. Looks like a hypo to me, but I'd be rooting for it being the normal look for kings in that area.

Hypos always have a lighter head unless it was one of those high red flames selectivly bred for generations and was released.
i guess we will never know for sure now. So we can speculate.

I don't agree. Only the hypo strain in today's hobby always have the lighter heads. A different hypo strain could easily be very different than the the commonly seen form of hypo everyone has today.

Doug,
I purchsed the original hypos from Doug and Loves. they all had light heads.
Now it could be another form of hypo like the Peanut butter. But it is still a hypo. WQuestion is if it is allelic.
I see something different and that is the head color. That is what got me excited. Maybe it is not a regular common hypo strian but a new rcessive trait.

I think hypo is just a name you all Floridana keepers use.....for classification purposes.
They may not even truly be hypomelanistic......just lighter phenotypes
Mother Nature line breeds too.....

Poor planning and procrastination on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part...

If I got it, I wouldn't even breed it unless I found a mate from the same area. Locality is cooler, in my opinion.

So here is hoping you don't find it then
.
If it was a male and if i had it i would breed it to every female i have.

I didn't say, I wouldn't let someone breed it, just in my care, I only do it for fun. I mean, I think it would be cooler if it wasn't a morph and just a new locale.

i would agree with you on this. locality breeding would be secondary based on how the genetics played out.

Yes, I realize all that, and I would agree with the rest. I was just commenting about the part that all hypos have light heads. Yes, the known one's certainly do.

This one someone found on Meritt Island a few years ago. Almost looks like a really pale "Suwanee" King. Very cool and at least you know it's out there

Merit island is right next to me, I go a lot. There is occipitolineata there too, I think Nick has some pics of floridana some birders found. It's a sweet place to go, now I live on the north side, Canaveral National Seashpre, the beaches are freaking awesome. There is pines ales there too, so I have been told.

i would love to go looking for that. i would jump in my truck asap get on the road and get down to florida in about 22 hours.-remember i in new york.- once i got there i would start looking for the snake.
that is all. i just skipped the details, like the vague time space between 10 minutes and 22 hours.

I haven't read the thread yet but I hope he kept it and is putting it into a locality breeding program.
To me one of the greatest joys of a locality project is when you catch a really nice specimen and can reproduce what the best of the best look like from that locality.
I don't think a locality snake needs to be average looking to represent the locality. It does help to be aware of the greater spectrum of the locality but IMHO reproducing the best ones still falls within the parameters of the given locality. No one snake is going to be representative of the whole locality amyways, unless that locality only has one phehotype and usually there are several phenotypes in each locality.

Guess I should have read the thread. I see it was released, that's kind of a bummer but at least it wasn't killed.

Wow man, that is something else bro! Is that the only pic he took?

Disclaimer: I do keep several snakes in pairs, and some in groups. However I realize that things can go wrong, and I have to keep a close eye on those groups, to be sure they are not being adversely affected by these living conditions. Also if one happens to eat it's cagemate, it is 100% my fault, and I know the risks in advance!
