Greeri Clutch

KcTrader Jun 11, 2012 05:27 AM

First time breeding greeri and got a nice clutch of 4 eggs. Here's a pic of the pair this spring. The female is the smaller one and het hypo and the male is a nice light phase. Then a pic of the dam with the clutch. Pretty excited to see what they produce.

Very nice!!! I have heard those buggers are hard to breed, so double nice!!! Hope they hatch some screamer for you bro.

Thanks Joe, I heard the same thing. Apparently they are easier than L.p.pyromelana. I have witness copulation 2 years in a row with my AZ mtn kings and still no eggs. Something I am missing for sure, I will figure it out someday.

Congratulations!

Hope to see your greeri-hatchlings in 60 days!

About greeri-breeding:
Some say that these snakes are hard to breed, keep them as pairs/groups together !My greeris start breeding in jan/feb, when the snow starts to melt these are the first you can see copulating while thayeris and alternas are inactiv...so keep them together!
The real problem with this snakes is to get them eating on their own...cause i don`t have the right food for them here in germany(little lizards).
It can take long until they accept a mice-diat.
yours

Michael

PS i have 2 good clutches of greeris and tomorrow is day Nr 30 of incubation...

KcTrader Jun 11, 2012 05:37 PM

Thanks Michael!

I have a freezer full of miscellaneous lizards just for that reason. I also work with some NA milk species that can be troublesome at times too. So getting them to eat might not be to hard.

I rotated my male in and out with the female since March 1. I never witnessed copulation but did see some courtship at times. They were a pair of snakes that never had access to temps higher than 80. Male only ate 3 meals since March and 2 were in the past week. His appetite came back as soon as I kept him away from the female for a week.

I will be looking for you to post some pics of those eggs hatching in 30 days or so......Good luck!

Those are nice Jimmy! Conratulations.

Disclaimer: I do keep several snakes in pairs, and some in groups. However I realize that things can go wrong, and I have to keep a close eye on those groups, to be sure they are not being adversely affected by these living conditions. Also if one happens to eat it's cagemate, it is 100% my fault, and I know the risks in advance!

Thanks John, I would take one but four would definitely be better! Heck, a nice light phase like the sire with hollowed out saddles would be nice too.Did you have any greeri breeding this year?
