Hello.
Was this picture taken in the dark place? If that is right, I think this snake is kind of Psammodynastes. They are distributed also some islands in Indonesia. But their pupil is perpendicular.

OK...Need info. Are the scales Keeled or smooth? How big is this? What color/pattern on belly? And for someone that is ignorant of your geography what is this place near that I can see on a map... You can contact me at rearfang@bellsouth.net

It is smooth scaled, about 30 cm long. The island is just south of the city Cilacap which is on the south central coast of Java. I will email you some better pictures. Thanks, Don

Very cool....Will hit the books on this....But off the cuff it has the look of an Oligodon.

Also known as the Mock viper. It is very variable. Size; to 44cm livebearing. Feeds on lizards and frogs. Found from SE. Asia to the Phillipines.

Frank, Thanks, I didn't find much info on them out there but it looks right to me. I see they say venomous but it has bit me 50 times if its bit me once, several times penetrating enough to draw blood but no ill effects. It must be very very mild. I thank you for your time on this. Don

Your most wellcome. I always try to point out that there is a differance between venomous and dangerous....Guess that's another example. Good luck!
