F1's from Amherst county VA

Dniles Jun 12, 2012 08:48 PM

The first of several NA milk clutches has hatched. I came home to this the other day.

Now that they shed, I took a couple of quick pics to share. These were from a pairing of high red animals so my hopes are for some nice red adults. The babies seem nice and red, some redder than others like this one

and again

and again with one of its clutchmates

Here are some others. there are very few babies with the classic Y or V on the neck.

Dave

They look great. I love the red color. My New Hampshire locale eastern eggs are due to hatch in the next 7 to 10 days. I will post them if all goes well.

Superb job.

Cracking parents and even better hatchlings! I would love to even have a rough idea of where Amherst county is, let alone pinpoint. Any maps, habitat pictures etc.? Really interested!

Amherst county is near Lynchburg VA, which is in central VA. The animals come from the appalachian mountains directly west of Lynchburg. I don't have any habitat shots sorry. Maybe I will get some next time I go.

Very nice. Maybe some will turn out even redder than the parents, if that's even possible.

Disclaimer: I do keep several snakes in pairs, and some in groups. However I realize that things can go wrong, and I have to keep a close eye on those groups, to be sure they are not being adversely affected by these living conditions. Also if one happens to eat it's cagemate, it is 100% my fault, and I know the risks in advance!

Those things are sweet! Is it any wonder that we develop the milk addiction that we do? Hardly, I say!
