Updated pics of Coral Ghost Cal Kings...

Kerby... Jun 13, 2012 02:59 PM

Although I might get lucky and produce some more this year from my double hets.......my 1.1 will breed next year.

Here is the male, the female was in the blue so no pic.

A Coral Ghost Cal King is displaying both Ghost and Hypomelanistic at the same time. These are a FIRST in the cal king world. Also my Casper Ghost (Albino Ghost) and my Pink Pearl Ghost (Lavender Ghost) are firsts.

I only have 4 females that have dropped their eggs in the last week, the rest are getting ready to lay. Come August we shall see what pops out.

I also bred my male Casper Ghost (Albino & Ghost) to my female Blue-Eyed Blonde, so if the the eggs are good they babies will be triple hets (Albino, Ghost, Blue-Eyed Blonde).

I did not breed the female Casper Ghost, waiting another year.....although in the past I have bred numerous cal kings at 18 months.

I heard they can breed earlier than that, lol! Cool man, I like the dark and light phase ghost, it's a cool gene that mixes really well with the hypo gene. Where did the ghost originate from?

I got mine from Brian at B.H.B. in 2002. He said he got them from a guy who never could get them to breed. I believe the wild caught original came from Palomar Airport area (California). There have been other wild caught "Ghost" cal kings.

This is definitely my favorite morph you have made, Kerby. I also really like the Pink Pearl Ghost. The Casper is just too light for my taste, but those other two are absolutely amazing!!! These closer shots are exactly what I wanted to see.

"A Coral Ghost Cal King is displaying both Ghost and Hypomelanistic at the same time"

Very nice Kerby!

Does that mean that particular morph is actually a Palomar ghost x another different form of hypo?. You know what I mean here...since the Palomar isn't actually a true double recessive trait hypo x anery or axanthic as in most other snakes in the hobby. Man, that combination is way lighter than I would have expected it to be too. It even has amel looking eyes and a VERY light pink coloration.

..thanks

In 2010 I bred back clutchmates. Two of the clutches produced a Coral Ghost Cal King.

The first one came out of this pairing.
M-54, triple het (Ghost, Hypo, Albino) * my original female Ghost that I got in 2002 was het albino, and FM-54...so through breeding I found out that some of the babies were also triple hets.

Here is the clutch pic

Then the other clutch produced one by breeding the other siblings back to each other.

M-55

FM-55

And they produced the other Coral Ghost in this clutch.

Does all that make sense?

Thanks, ...yeah that's exactly what I figured with the hypo equation you mentioned earlier.

That one is incredible Kerby, I love how many different morphs and pattern variations there are of cal kings now. The hobby owes you a thank you for introducing some of these new ones into the mix. I can't wait to breed that light phase ghost male I got from you next year, he's probably almost at 36".
