A Couple of Gophers that I Found

tspuckler Jun 14, 2012 03:33 AM

I'm doing some Las Vegas area herping.

Great Basin Gopher from last night:

Great Basin/Sonoran intergrade from tonight:

It's been hot every day - over 100 degrees, but the roadhunting isn't to bad.

Are you keeping them? That one looks like it is on a road; worst hazard for snakes.

No, I just photograph and release...and move them off the road.

When I find them on the road I am able to relocate them to my friend's home which is some distance from any roads, and at one time had a terrible gopher infestation. Walking across his yard was like walking through a battlefield with exploded mines there were so many gopher holes and mounds. Since I have been releasing gopher snakes there the gopher population has declined considerably!

My most recent find this spring, an adult. I love watching them go down the gopher holes!

Tim,

Thanks for sharing! I love it!!

I talk to clients from Vegas everyday at work, and they have been telling me all week how hot it has been there.
