Breeding affected by placement in rack?

ROC Jun 16, 2012 02:56 PM

Has anyone noticed that if a particular snake is in a particualr spot in a rack that it doesn't produce? Will consistently breed when on the top but not the bottom, or vise versa? The bottom of the rack will be cooler that the top, so does this or other factors affect the snakes at all?
Thanks.

The last couple seasons I tried to see what the girls on the bottom of my racks did as far as follicle development, growth and a couple other things. From my findings over two seasons and 24 different (2 racks, bottom 2 levels) females I have never had any of those females grow any type of follicles. I have been using an ultrasound the last two seasons so I am able to see any size follicle the female has.
However, with these females on the bottom I have found that ALL of them grew much larger and faster than the other girls in the racks. Even the females in other parts of the rack that didn't go that year did not grow as large as these females during the winter solstice.
The rest of the racks I would have no idea. I tend to move females to various positions throughout the racks during the winter to kinda change things up for the girls. But I kept the bottom two levels the same just to experiment.

once a snake on top (het amel 3) was always acting weird....and the het number 7 (which was 5th down that rack then ) acted weird too....one was hot one was cold....?....thught...I switched...they both loved it.....#7 always ate Peromyscus mice only....then maybe some ASFR....after I put her up top....she ate mice and rats and anything....she was cold....(like 80 ish all the time.....

temp matters....works for breeding too.....

I have quite a few and I have females constantly lay or inconsistantly lay regardless of position. My room only fluctuates 2 -3 deg. Temps do matter but if they are consistent.... It ultimately resides on the female....
