Hi Z,

I recieved your letter, I've been having a great deal of E-mail trouble-mostly due to EARTHLINK. It has been most exasperating.

You are most welcome anytime. This info by the way, would have been available to everyone over a year ago if things had panned out with the CCA and Laura's newsletter which as you know, did not come to fruition.

To your question on all and anything on Corucia, I know you are a very intelligent individual and probably know just about as much as I do. If there is anything specific you wish to know that I can share-I would be happy to do so.

Sincerely,
Brian

Thanks for the reply.

What I was really asking for was some references to good scientific literature on the topic of group dynamics and individual stress in Corucia. Since you do research on these guys and have such strong feelings about what's what I assumed you would have read some good articles on it that you'd be willing to pass along.

No big deal if you don't have any. Thanks anyway!

Hi Z,

I refer you to the various works on reptile social dynamics by Dr. William Cooper and Richard Estes. This includes work on Corucia zebrata.

Dr. Fred Parker did extensive research on Corucia in Papua New Guinea and made several references to the Corucia Circulus. In one observation, he noted the group structure having the alpha animals at the top of the daytime hollows and weaker-thinner members towards the bottom. Observations of parential care were also documented. The name of the Research Center in India escapes me-but the Circulus structure of the Ganges Gharial was extensively studied before the wild population crashed due to erosion run-offs during the Monsoon season.

Best regards,
Jean

Hi JEAN,

The name of the Indian Gharial Research Center is The Kukrail Research and rehabilitation center.

I see your up on Parker--Most Impressive. I know Cooper was doing work with Corucia on scent communication. Heinman I believe was working on the 'Corucian' play of colors linked to visual recognition of Circulus territorial boundaries in the Crepuscular twilight. Low angled light highlighting the animal during their peak roaming time.

Thanks for the info Jean. I really appreciate it!

I don't suppose you could help me out with a title or two, or tell me if I'm searching for books or journal articles? I've spent the last few minutes googling and searching Biological Abstracts and Zoological Record and nothing pops out at me.

You may wish to also Research work on Corucia social interactions by John Groves including the Corucia stress calls resembling young Crocodilian stress calls. F. Harvey Pough makes some references though personal communication with John Groves as well. He also describes Circulus attributes with Crocodilians. Refer to Recommendations for the Care of Amphibians and Reptiles in Academic Institutions -National academy press-1992. When time permits, I'll write more.

Brian

I had also made mention of this similarity numerous times in a big discussion a few weeks ago, but the topic seemed to be of no interest.

Thank you Brian. I'll look for it.
