some examples of "choices" for snakes

FR Jun 19, 2012 10:31 AM

Recently these were posted on our forum(varanids) of kingsnakes kept in a method that allows them "choices". They are a very good example of what I have been talking about.

Again, I am going to link this, so those not interested do not have to follow the link. Also read the thread as there are more examples. Enjoy

Except for the part where anyone said you can't do it that way, I liked that setup. That nesting method, the Franks care sheet way, is really cool. I love the tunnels they make too, that makes it fun for the keeper to see. As for relationships and bonding, I'm more interested in the nesting and routine thing, the natural behaviors. Cool!

I wonder why you can't just like the good stuff, burrows, holes, temps choices, etc etc. and not worry about the other.

You do know that bonding is a product of time and experience. If you set young snakes up in a way, they can be snakes, like the cages you just saw, you "may" observe, if your lucky, some individuals showing a perference for other individuals. Even to a point that when one is removed from the cage, the other goes nuts and crawls and crawls until you put its cagemate back. You see sir, its about creating a situation where it can occur, then observing it, as it builds.

ITs also REQUIRED that you have some experience with BEHAVIOR, as then you would understand you cannot take an individual snake thats been all its life in solitary confinement and put it with another and SEE BONDING. WHat you will see is cannibilism.

AGain behavior is about EXPERIENCE and genetics and time. Bonding is something BUILT. its that way with people too. Cheers

I like all the good stuff, I find it interesting and agreed with what you said. I just have certain feelings about certain things.

Gerard, hows it going. You say, "I have certain feelings about things". Its funny you say that, because that too is normal behavior. We all have certain feelings about things. In most cases those feelings have a base or origin.

In this case, bonding, until you actually HAVE REAL experiences with that, you will never understand and there is no way you could.

What your doing is being judgemental. Your judging something without attempting to learn if its real or not. WHich is exactly how progress is held back. So if thats what you want, its your CHOICE. hahahahahahahaha

Have a great day Some stuff I found last night

I'm not judging anymore, only speaking for myself, I enjoyed that post. I really liked that milk setup and will be trying that with some kings, not the bonding, just the setup. Is that a senticolis? Santa Ritas?

I like when people make an effort to give their snakes an interesting habitat with lots of tactile opportunities.
