Super Champagne - post shed

DavidGreen Jun 20, 2012 06:49 PM

The Super Champagne shed today and here's an updated picture. She is pretty neat, kind of translucent, if you look closely you can see veins, etc. I think that's giving her the pinkish look. It's difficult to get a good picture as some came out more yellow, or too pink. I think this picture shows her look the best.

She is very shy and constantly tucking her head in. Definitely not 100% but she seems much stronger now.

now that she has been out a little bit i was wondering how she is neurologically or does she behave normally?

Is "wonkey" a real term or was it a typo? If it was a typo, maybe you just created a NEW term!

adamjeffery Jun 22, 2012 12:13 AM

well a little of both really. while it is a real term i for some reason added an "e" to the word. should have read "wonky"
lol....

She's a bit strange, I would explain it as extremely nervous. She is fine in her bin but as soon as you pick her up, or touch her, she is either trying to tuck her head in or trying to escape. Not in panic mode but close to it. It's different then a spider wobble but she is still a bit off.

David,

Congrats on proving the super!
She is a nice looking snake. I also have to give you credit for venturing ahead with the super champagne project. Even in the light of my sour prediction, you kept working full steam ahead.
Kudos to you for that!
One can never be sure of the results until they put the time in.
You have certainly put the time in.

I am sorry that she is "squirrely". This is why I did not pursue the super project. I wish my prediction did not hold water.

However, unfortunately, it proved true. I can see it in her head position.
Perhaps she will improve with time...but again, I have my doubts.

The Champagne is wonderful when combined with most other morphs...but as you know, there are some morph combos that are best avoided.

I came forward publicly with this information before anyone else...and I took a lot of flack for it. Other big name breeders (Kevin) kept quiet about these negative Champagne Combo issues...even though they knew the results were not desirable. In his defense, perhaps he was still trying to decipher the issue??? Didn't take me that long to figure out.

Other breeders (Brock Wagner and Corey Woods) flat denied that there were any issues...even with the knowledge of these problems. Unfortunately greed is a factor in this business.
They were certain that I was on a personal vendetta against the project. (Keep in mind, I had invested a considerable amount in the Champagne project...and had no reason to discredit.)

Honesty is something we should all strive for as breeders.
By sharing out breeding results (negative or positive) we elevate our hobby and provide progressive direction to other breeders in the hobby. I appreciate your willingness to be honest about your results. Great job. A beautiful snake.
Keep up the good work.

Take care,

Are there concerns with enchi/hypo/champagne combos? Where I was headed next season. Unless a course correction is warranted?

WALL2WALLREPTILE Jun 23, 2012 03:34 PM

I think that should be a safe combination of cool morph traits.
The Enchi Champagne is awesome and we all love the Mimosas.
These are stable combinations...I see no reason why they should not make some outstanding offspring. Nice to imagine their soft, velvety orange goodness! Like Sorbet! (That might make a good name for the combo, if you should happen to hit the odds.)
Best wishes with your project...keep us informed on any progress!

Harlin, thanks, I appreciate the kind words. I've liked the champagne gene since I first saw them and I acquired my first female in 2008. I think the combos are interesting and I'm pretty excited about the extreme ringers I'm working with and the paradox animals others have produced. But, there are obviously some combos to avoid.

I heard all the rumors and speculation regarding the super champagne but I wanted to try it for myself. I was somewhat skeptical and was also worried that I may produce an animal that had issues. When I saw I had something different in the egg I cut a large opening in case it had issues getting out. She seems to be doing okay but I'm not ready to tell everyone to start producing this super.

On a side note, I've produced quite a few champagnes and haven't seen the issues others have spoken about. I produced a couple that would get overly excited when feeding and miss the food item when striking but that's about it. Also, I've had nothing but positive experiences with both Brock and Corey.

Thanks again!

Dave
