YOu can go to radio shack and get a digital one with a probe that will tell you high and low temps, or you can also go to www.proexotics.com and get one of their tempguns which gives you an instant reading of the object you point it at. Chris

Walmart or similar department store should sell digital thermometers with probe for about $10. I don't know what brand I have but I have at least three different kinds, one of which is made by 'TempMinder'.

My more expensive one (cost me $30) is a GE I think. It records the min/max temperature, has a built in clock, and alarm (you can set it to go off if the temperature reaches a certain level). But I find I rarely use any of the other features except the min/max which was great during the initial monitoring of temps in my bearded dragon's cage. Now I find a rarely check the min/max anymore. The cool area is always at near or a bit higher than room temperature so there is always a cool area for the dragon to go to. Even in summer the temperature of my house never passed 85 F (and that was only one or two days when the temp reached that high).
