Marking males and females

Vargas Oct 05, 2003 10:51 AM

Hi,
What is the best way to visually mark males and females? I have seen some breeders use what looks to be paint of some kind. They put a pink dot on the back end of the females and blue dot on the back end of the males. For now I only have them separated because I don't want to mix the sexed ones up with each other as I will never be able to tell them apart.
What product or paint would be safe to use for this?
It will have to be waterproof as well.
Thanks Steve

At reptiles shows, most vendors tend to use "Sharpie" or other quick-drying permanent markers. They come in various colors & are resistant to water. Be aware that this is not for use on amphibians, semi-aquatic or aquatic reptiles. Also, when the reptile is going to shed, the mark will also go with the old skin.
