First Milk Clutch of 2012

tspuckler Jun 26, 2012 08:29 PM

Milk Snakes are always the last snakes to breed and lay eggs for me. Today I got this from a "first timer" albino Nelson's.

Yeah Joe,

She didn't pass that last one until the following night - I reckon she was tired!

I'd say when they're 2-3 years old you start seeing the yellow. Keep in mind that the color shifts (the original white rings turn yellow and the rings that start off as yellow turn white).

I do not know how this works genetically. For several years I've bred an albino male to a het female. A few years back I held back a pair of their offspring (the original male is 17 years old and the female is 15). Both of the offspring grew up to have the "yellow reverse" bands.

The female is the one in the original post. Here's the male holdback.

Very nice indeed Tim. Should be some pretty babies!

No, I think they're white. Maybe "off white" compared to the white color of her eggs.

I've seen some albino snakes get yellow with age (yellow replaces the white), but the doesn't explain the yellow fading out of the center triad, leaving it white.

Congrats Tim. That's a great looking nelsoni. I love the yellow on that one.
