HELP!!!

JH May 27, 2003 12:21 PM

I am not new to this forrum, or monitors. But I was resently presented with a new problem. I adopted a white/black throat cross. He is 4 foot. He is extremly weak, and does not eat. He is not skinny yet, but getting there. It seams as if his back legs do not work that well. He does not move exept to thermoregelate, which is not very often. This lizards does not have enough strength to hold up his head. I just got him. The previous owner said that he sudenly stoped eating and stoped moving one day. I honestly dont have any history of him, or his simptoms. All I can tell you is what I just mentioned. If any of you have any clue what is wrong with him, or what I can do to get him feeding again, and atleast somewhat regaine his strength I would REALLY apriciate it. I just dont want this buitiful animal to die. Is there anything I can do? What about force feeding? I have never done it, and honestly dont know much about it. I dont come to this forrum much anymore, so if you could email me at: monitors4you@hotmail.com I would, once again, really apriciate it.
Thank you soooo much, Jed Hassfeld

Haven't heard from you in a while. Hope all is going well, current situation excluded of course.

I think the best thing you can do is opt for a vet visit. I have done a force feed once before and it was very hard on the animal. I only did it after the vet didn't see any other option. I was administering antibodics, and had no real choice but to force feed. It is NOT something that should be done under normal, or even most abnormal circumstances.

I am sorry but what you are asking is well beyond most if not all of us that frequent this forum. I am afraid you need someone with a better understanding of the animals condition (medically) and you need to try to "read" the animal as best you can. Be sure your husbandry is at it's best also.

Hope it all works out for the best. Keep us posted.

Gene
