should note, they all shed this afternoon. As soon as the last one had started, I pulled out pinky mice and brained them. All but one or two have taken a f/t brained mouse now. Substrates damp because I get the cage fairly moist right before first shed. It'll dry out in a day or two right now--it's hot, dry and nasty up here.

They all look great! Have you figured out what those last ones are? Jellies?

Nope. Can't figure out how they'd be jellies, as albino isn't in th mix.

I don't sell snakes until they've had several meals and a couple sheds so we'll see what they develop into within a month or two. worse case I'll hold one back and breed it to it's mom.

Maybe Peanut Butter then? There is definately something other than Lavender, going on there. Keep us posted.

Yes i already told him they were PB. Males are light like that and females are dark.

of course te different lines makes them look different like that .

varanid Jun 29, 2012 11:18 AM

Yeah you'd mentioned that it'd be more certain after the 1st shed. If you're still sure they're PB,s then that's good to know.

I've got one or two that look like possible hypos too, but I have to give it a couple sheds to know. They're either hypos or just light normals. Kind of wish I'd hit a combo but eh, oh well.

I may breed my het PB male to my albino female for some jellies too

I was talking about the albino looking one being a PB in particular. With the darker ones you never got back and confirmed they were females?? Remember i asked if they were females?? But even if they are females, they still could be very light normals (which i doubt) because of the flash of a camera and lighting can change things drastically with what the true colors are.

I can tell you from all the different lines of PB. It is hard to tell and the mixes of new traits i brought in changed the PB look so fast that there is no golden standard. With other new single traits it took years for people to start developing them into new multi het animals.

But those snakes came from me, right? I only made so many line combos which cuts certain things out of possibilities.

For instance the 007 line is PB x ANERY and Lavender. No axanthic in the mix that i sold. Doesn't mean i won't do anthing like that THis year. But I know what is released into people hands and for there to be babies there is a timeline.

The 123 lines are Hypo x axanthic. So I know what combos I put with what and that helps figure things out for people who bought unkown hets or possible hets and don't recall themselves anymore what they were 2-3 years ago.So they send me pics of questions on animals they hatched out from those cheaper poss hets.

Thats why I like Poss hets because nce you prove them out. You can do subsequent breedings for years and get some pretty good coin out of a inexpensive pair of multi het animals.

Oh, I haven't probed yet. I'm a lot more confident when they're a little bit bigger, so I am going to wait a few weeks (4-5 meals) to probe. After that I'll try to get some better photos, and post up a series on them.

Mine were 123 line. I know this because one of the males I got is a kicking axanthic

No need to probe. Heck you don't even need to pop. Just ook at the tails. Males have the longer thicker area and you can even see te lines of the hemipnus through the light ventral area during this time of their life.

baby florida morphs before or right after first shed are real easy to inspect sexes. But you will never understand unless you at least look once.

just look at all of their tails one by one. Tell me if you can see what I am talking about.

Male hemipenus on som eof these don't even need but a slight push of the index finger to every. Of course not all are like this or if they shed a couple times and or get dehydrated (which they should'nt), but fr the most part I can tell with all of mine right aroun dthe first shed with a glance. Subsequent probing females is always required before sale anyway (males are not neccssary as if they evert a hemipenus, so no further probing necsssary). But what you will develope is a knack and and eye from looking.

I always like to know right away what approx sex ratios are. Bums me out when they are all males. which is usually the case!

Haven't been able to sleep tonight (running a fever, and good luck sleeping with one) so I went out to check. 20 babies, all but 2 (one from each clutch) ate. One of that ate didn't manage to get the pinky all the way down; I have more ocming in late next week and I'll sort through them for a small one for him. Hopefully the two non eaters will chow down then too. the leftover pinkies went to a cribo that eats anything.
