Heat Wave

Seeves1982 Jun 29, 2012 10:18 PM

So last summer never got overly warm here and the tubs stayed at the perfect temps 87 warm side and 80 cool side. Then in the winter for the cool down it was perfect the room got down to 72 whi h was leaving me with a cool spot at 75 and a warm spot around 80-85. I thought my room was going to be perfect for temps. All of the sudden this year we have a heat wave and my room has heated up to 88 which is leaving me with a hot spot around 95 and a cool spot around 90. I have a window ac unit on standby, but I just wanted to see how necessary it was. I know this temps are high, but I find it hard to believe that if It can get this hot up here then I don't see how my current temps could be all that unreasonable for their native west Africa. But I've been wrong before. So I'm here for some info. The two and a half main questions I have are.

1. The temps have only been there for three days and still drop reasonably at night. Is there any issues I should be looking for? All of my snakes seem healthy and show no signs or illness or RIs or anything.

2. I have a pinstripe that I'm pretty sure gravid. A friend of mine said that temps over 85 degrees can kill the sperm. I feel this could be true in maybe a human, but with ball pythons requiring warmer temps than humans to begin with I find that harder to believe. So is there anything to worry about there? And if the snake had already ovulated wouldn't it be less of an issue anyway since the eggs would already be fertilized?

Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks

Humans natural body temp is 98.6 so human sperm would be fine. Temps over 92 degrees from my understanding can kill BP sperm. I would not let the temps get that high if I had a gravid girl. Not worth the risk. I'm still fairly new but from all I've heard/read those temps could potentially kill the clutch if she doesn't have a way to cool off

If that would kill the clutch does anyone know would that harm her or would she just slug out or lay unhealthy eggs?
