FR Jul 10, 2012 09:15 AM

Last couple of nights saw these and more.

That female Greenrat is killer, one of the nicist I have seen. Seen a grip of those lately.

Last night there was three blacktails. Of course many other species like blackheadeds, lyresnakes, night snakes, sidewinders, and diamondbacks etc.he last couple nights. 6 species of rattlesnakes. And just to think, we have at least 4 more species close by.

I really should stay home and work. Oh well, whats a boy to do. Enjoy

I agree, that is a nice looking "S.triaspis"! I'm sure Randy Whittington, Toby Brock, and other rat guys would have loved to have been there.

thats really cool i had no idea pyros hit the pavement, i figured they'd stay in their rock piles/hills as in not big travelers.

Pyros, do cross roads and in many places. They are no different then any other kingsnake. You have resident and transient individuals.

In most cases, roads do not cross suitable habitat at the elevations where pyros are night active. And they are night active except in the very highest parts of their habitat.

In many cases, pyros are found in grasslands and in those areas, road hunting is the best way to find them.

I would also say, that pyros are not rock pile snakes over the majority of their range. But its something humans can recognize and exploit.

Female. Cheers

Yea, that walking stick must have been attracted to the lites as it walked right up and stayed on the snake.

So your a ratsnake fan? I really loved that female. she was a bit over four feet, Later we found a 30 inch beatup male. The other night we found a 4 foot plus male that was really nice.

That female kept lots of her pattern and was a bit more yellow then most and dang I love that wide head.

A couple years ago, I found a gravid 5 1/2 footer. It was much greener. and it had a wide head as well.

Cheers

I think where we were, there are 18 species of snakes, just at that one spot. At least thats what my partner said last night.

A few weeks ago was saw 8 species in one night.

OH yea, thats the reason I move to this hot hot land. Cheers

Michael,
What do you find in Germany? I am guessing a ratsnake of some sort, a grass snake, maybe a viper. What else?

Dobry Jul 10, 2012 06:56 PM

I found some type of worm snake or blind snake in Bavaria near Ansbach. They have a type of European Asp too. They also have some very pretty lacerta type lizards and a skink of some type.

Very nice Northern Green Rat! I was out in the Santa Ritas last month - but we didn't see any intermedia while I was there.

Would you mind saying what mountain range that one was in?
