A couple questions RE. Troughs

Lucien Oct 05, 2003 02:48 PM

My first question, of course, is what species can be housed in these? A Bosc possibly? And the other thing is... Whats the price of a fairly large one? I had been considering building Kiros a cage from plywood and particle board..but if I can find a trough big enough and build the top I'd be all for that. Not to mention, I'm headed back to VT. Livestock country.. *l* Possibly better prices for things.

Yes they CAN be used. What makes a good cage, has more to do with the setup and the felxibility to change it for an individual than the actual material it is made out of. What species does not really affect this, all in all, it is just a box. What is in the box, is of more importance.

As you noted, prices vary from place to place. It would be much more accurate for you to call the places that you might buy from.

I have seen 10x3 round end steel stock tanks, I know there are circular ones that are larger. I have also seen some pretty neat smaller sizes of plastic stock tanks (3x5). But, you will probably be limited to what the feed store you visit is willing to stock. Depending on what manufacturers they carry, and the sizes they normally sell, you may or may not be able to get them to order something for you.
