I'm having a good non king snake day. First the map and now I just picked up this beauty, my new female albino Cuban tree frog. I had a group last year that ended in a few bad accidents. There was a good number of these found in a single wild group. Almost all of them were lost and now I have this single female to hopefully reproduce the gene. It's a cool frog that would make a great pet, we will see if I can get it going. Sorry for the bad pics, I don't want to mess with her that much.

How easy, or difficult is it to breed those things?

Disclaimer: I do keep several snakes in pairs, and some in groups. However I realize that things can go wrong, and I have to keep a close eye on those groups, to be sure they are not being adversely affected by these living conditions. Also if one happens to eat it's cagemate, it is 100% my fault, and I know the risks in advance!

I can't help but notice you speak in the past tense in this post... "I had a group"... "There was a good number"... and so on.

Perhaps those frogs would have been better off where they were?

Gerry

I think any animal would be better off where they were or where they are supposed to be. I had a female eat one of my albino males and had a chemical spill in my garage that nuked the other. I don't know all the stories of the rest but do know they are gone. It's weird to think that certain animals would be better off and then keep others in a cage, don't you think?

I have zero doubts that Gerard provides the very best care he can with all his animals... zero, zilch, none...

My recent post dealing with my poly and duck tape hopefully shows I'm all too aware that strange sh!t can happen... things you wouldn't take into account in your "what if" scenerios... but

If it were me somehow being responsible for the early end to a rather unique group of wild caught animals... I wouldn't... couldn't... go back there again.

Gerard... again I'm certain you do the very best you can for your animals, that's easy to see in all your posts, that's what I really like about all your OT posts... this time though, I simply don't understand... you're polite reply to what some would see as my taking a cheap shot on your husbandry only proves you have, at the very least, the point I'm trying to make.

I really hope this go round has a much better outcome for you!

That should read

GerardS Jul 13, 2012 06:01 PM

I didn't take offense to it at all, not even a little. I have stepped up my efforts with the frogs to make sure all accidents are avoided, this time.

Gerry, I can say that he takes very good care of them, and knows their husbandry very well. There was a very unfortunate freak accident involving a rusted-out bottom of an old paint thinner can that was in close proximity to their enclosures. He has since then taken appropriate measures to make sure something like that never happens again.

Actually, it wasn't anywhere near any animal, It was up on top of the tool bench on the other side. We didn't even remember it was there it was so old. That really sucked, 23 animals died because of that, it just nuked it.

Yeah, I hear ya. I didn't really mean it was inches away from them, but apparently it was close enough. I'm sure there are all sorts of people out there that also have things in their rooms that could easily cause huge problems similar to that. Most of the time they wouldn't, but as you already know it only takes one thing to happen that can set the gears of major catastrophe into motion. Gerry also knows this with the recent duct tape incident involving his polyzona.

Exactly Doug... as you can see to my above reply to Gerard... no offense was meant to Gerard... I'm very certain he cares for each and every one of his animals... I don't ever forget when you point a finger at someone there three are pointing back at yourself!

Gerry

DMong Jul 13, 2012 06:19 PM

Oh, I know Gerry, I know you didn't mean it that way, just like I didn't insinuate anything by the duct tape thing either. I just mentioned it was all. We have all screwed up somehow in the past and have had bizarre things happen. I'm certainly no exception either.

teary eyed... three people with varying amounts of interaction away from the forum able to express differing points of views without taking offense... who would have thought it on the Kingsnake forum!

Either I'm getting senile or sentimental... please don't express your opinions on the matter gents... senile I could live with... sentimental though... I don't ever want it known I might actually like or appreciate some people!

Adios, my stuarti have waited long enough for today's feeding
