I really screwed myself today...when I went to move the lid with my powersun on it over to drop a few crix in THOR's cage I ended up letting the powersun come in contact with the plastic on the top of the aquarium and it instantly melted right on my bulb!!! UGH!!!!! Now I have a 1/2"x3/4" black spot on my bulb! Will it be okay now???? Damn figures I'd find a way to screw this up!

Just turn the light off, giving it time to cool and take a sharp knife or razor blade and scrape the melted plastic off.

If you shut the bulb off and let it cool, you should be able to pick the plastic off. If there is still a black mark there, it is just pigment and should be fine.

Not a big deal really. What the others suggested is what I did. Won't effect the light to much. Just try not to touch the bulb to much with your hands. From what I hear finger oils can damage the bulbs some how. I'm not really sure how, but i think CheriS knows why. I never got to ask her why, lol. I always just took the advice

I know that in other types of lamps, oils from your hand can heat up and burn and cause hot spots which can eventually blow the lamp. This is a problem with almost any lamp that gets really hot.
