Snowflake eggs

joecop Jul 15, 2012 06:06 PM

Seems every year I get some sort of crazy eggs. Clear eggs last year and this year I have snowflake eggs!!! Acidic well water? WTF.. Anyway, these are from a w/c Calvert County MD eastern king. Not sure if she was gravid at time of capture or if my male knocked her up. (He has been waiting for a female!)They are all good but at the time she laid them they were not sticking together and I did not think they were good.

Anyone seen any like this?

Joe...
I've seen a few "snowflake" spots on some eggs but never the entire egg......

I hope they all hatch for you........

Thanks John. I am pretty sure they will all hatch out. They all had veins when laid and have all swelled up nicely. They are due to hatch very soon.

I've got a whole clutch this year that looks similar to yours. The shell is very thin, so perhaps this is how the shell develops inside mom? Who knows. I've seen it before in varying degrees. never seemed to indicate anything negative.

Aubrey, thanks for the input. I am getting used to dealing with crazy looking eggs at my place. LOL... Never worry until they stink.

Yeah, that's pretty odd, Joe. I have seen (and had) some that look very similar to those before. As a matter of fact, there are quite a few in my cornsnake clutch look VERY sililar to those as we speak!..LOL!

Those look fine to me though and should be okay.

Thanks Doug. Funny how these eggs did not have the "moma glue" on them and did not stick together AT ALL, despite being in contact. They all seemed almost dry when they were laid. Glad to hear others have seen the snowflakes before. LOL This is my first clutch that has had this appearence. I have never seen a w/c female lay bad eggs and I have to admit, the day she laid I thought I might have witnessed a first!!!!

Yeah, it's funny you mentioned them not sticking too, because none of my corn's did either like they normally would. But after I gathered them up and noticed the texture, I instantly knew why..LOL!

I've seen a fair number of Black racer clutches that are like that too for some reason....

That's pretty crazy. I've never seen eggs like that until now.

I have gotten eggs like that here and there. They hatched with no problems.

Congrats on the eggs
