I have attached a picture I just took of a one-year-old Testudo hermanni that I raised in my environmental chamber. It has never been outside and given almost no UVB (it is lighted with a 6-year old UVB bulb, which produces very little if any UVB). 100% of its diet has been ZuPreem Primate Diet (for the first couple of months) and Mazuri Tortoise Diet for most of the year (no greens or vegtables).
As long as humidity and moisture are correct you can have a perfect shell even with rapid growth. The Mazuri tortoise diet seems to have high enough levels of D3 so the UVB is not as critical as a tortoise raised on just greens.
I expect some responses from this post. Unfortunately I am leaving town for two weeks so don't expect an answer for a while.
