Hatching Prairies

KcTrader Jul 17, 2012 07:30 PM

I really don't know the genetics to these babies. I bred a het amel female to both a hypo male and amel male. I was figuring if the clutch had any amels, the male amel was the one that fertilized the eggs. Problem being is the two out of five females I bred the amel and hypo to were the only ones that laid any eggs. The other three were bred by just the hypo and no eggs from them. I guess it's just a two or three year mystery.

They are the most gentle hatchlings I have dealt with. I am used to milks and small kings that just want to bolt everywhere.

They for sure are quite unique. Not much of a N.A. kingsnake fan but the demeanor of these Prairies just kick butt.

Very nice bud!......well, you will get good things from them regardless, and ain't it great when you don't get crapped on and bit-up every single time they are touched?..LMAO!!

That will definitely be happening to me soon enough with the milks..

LMAO!!!! Yea, won't be to long before I start smelling like snake musk. Most of my milks laid later than normal this year. I do have a few clutches milks getting ready to hatch. Gotta love when you open that container and they all start bolting out at the same time.

HAHA!!..yep, gotta practice-up the ol' reflexes by snatching pebbles from a friend's hand for containers of milks...

Very Nice Jimmy. I love me some prairie kings!!! They are, IMO, one of the best handling snakes out there. Great pets. I only have one pair of locale KS prairies from my buddy PeeBee and they have held nice color into adulthood.

Disclaimer: I do keep several snakes in pairs, and some in groups. However I realize that things can go wrong, and I have to keep a close eye on those groups, to be sure they are not being adversely affected by these living conditions. Also if one happens to eat it's cagemate, it is 100% my fault, and I know the risks in advance!
