Second clutch from black and white pair

Denbar Jul 18, 2012 09:12 AM

I'm very happy with these babies. Some are extra nice, at least to me. This female produced 13 in first clutch and 9 in this one. Every egg hatched.

They do look nice Dennis! All the eggs hatching is awesome too.

Disclaimer: I do keep several snakes in pairs, and some in groups. However I realize that things can go wrong, and I have to keep a close eye on those groups, to be sure they are not being adversely affected by these living conditions. Also if one happens to eat it's cagemate, it is 100% my fault, and I know the risks in advance!

What's wrong with using CAUTION?!?!?!

Those are some very nice desert phase! Did the mom breed a second time too?

Denbar Jul 18, 2012 03:47 PM

Yes Ross. She did breed a second time. I also bred the lavendar female again. They should be out in about a 10 days or so. I didn't breed the spotted female again.

Thanks, Dennis

Very cool. I like seeing the difference between the two clutches. Very interesting.

Real nice clutch Dennis! Looks like you have some almost 50/50's in that batch. Thanks for sharing, once my clutch sheds I will post some pics.

I always associated black and white banded as being 50/50's. But when you say 50/50's.... you really mean that there is just as much black as there is white. Is that a correct statement?

Yes....50/50s have white bands as wide as the black bands....
Some are more like 60/40 or 70/30 nowadays......

And you have to go by the width of the bands on the very top, not the sides.

hahaha Well, I hope you are just kidding. I wrote that for anyone that didn't know. We had some guy arguing with Hubbs about what a 50/50 was last year and he was trying to say you go by the overall white. Sides and top, but that's not how its done.

Dennis, Very nice black & white California Kingsnakes, I like them. Are they locale specific, as in both parents from the same county or area? Thanks, John

Denbar Jul 26, 2012 07:57 PM

Sorry I never replied John. Didn't notice your response. I got them from two different sources. They are not locale specific.
