Need imput on transporting eggs

garage Jul 18, 2012 01:48 PM

I am moving this weekend and must transport 5 clutches of ball python eggs. The trip is only 25 miles. I was wondering if anyone could share their experience. Thanks!

Transporting your clutches should be no problem, just remember to be very gentle with them and make sure that the orientation of the top of each is maintained.

Best of luck

Unfortunately I've moved my entire collection 150 miles 3 times in the last year (4 times in the last 2 years might be a 5th time end of this month) including moves this and last egg seasons. I did my best to maintain temps and in spite of rough truck suspensions noticed no ill effects. Last year I even had a female lay her eggs in the bag during transport and all the eggs hatched fine. With a little care they are surprisingly tough. A big cooler with tightly sealed incubator temp jugs of water might be a good idea but I didn't think of that until just now and did my temp maintenance using the auto heater or a/c as needed (nothing like a three hour drive in the upper 80's after a hard day loading).

Thanks for the responses. I plan on using a 120 qt. cooler lined with bottles water that I had in the incubator. I'll set the 5 containers on top of that, then insulate with a towel. My main concern was the bumping around during the trip. Sounds like they should do ok. Take care!
