Close to hatching?

H_nasicus Jul 21, 2012 03:13 PM

So I've had one fertile egg this entire season. My female doubled, and the eggs were huge, but they all went bad.

This one good, tiny little egg just hit the 50 day mark on Thursday. A couple of days ago the snake moved to the top of the egg (it spent the majority of time sitting down near the bottom). The shell has started turning colors, and appears almost see-through.

Does this mean it is close to hatching? How much longer do you think it will be til it pips?

I bet 4-5 days tops and you'll have a little one cruising around your egg box.

Yay! This is really exciting! Can't wait until next year when I have more of them.

Is dimpled good? The egg has been a little dimpled in the top since last night?

Dimpled is very good!

haha, okay. This is my first time breeding, so I've been a bit of a nervous mother hen this entire time. >.> Several times I had actually thought the little guy wouldn't make it. You'd think now that it's so close to hatching, I'd stop worrying, but nope.

*sigh* Maybe I can relax more next year. I think it would have been better if I had an entire clutch to incubate, and not just one little egg.

Not really. Then you will have to worry 10,15,20 times more. Mike

Yeah. Knowing me, I'll still worry. Its what I do.

Beautiful babies there! Can't wait until mine pips. The egg is only a little larger than a quarter. Tiny tiny hognose.

Times will vary on incubation temps...it took my Hog 64 days to pip.

Just check it everyday...it should be ok.

The egg is sweating and shriveled on the top side like a raisin. Baby seems fine but isn't moving. I think the yolk is actually bigger than the baby. >.>

Some mold was starting to grow on the egg, but it still smells fine.

Thoughts? Should I be worried? How many more days should I give it before I need to worry?

this is an image of what the egg looks like. The top is really wrinkled. Egg does NOT smell, but the baby isn't moving around. Should it be?
