L.t. triangulum

flintdiver Jul 27, 2012 11:47 AM

A buddy of mine picked up this animal at a show recently. I saw it in person, it definately is different, not sure if axanthic/anerythristic or if some type of hypo comes in to play here. But it sure looks like something going on. It's from a southern locale, well within the triangulum range. Classic head, belly and dorsal blotching. Out of several dozen I have seen and personally collected, and the few hundred he has looked at in the past 35 years, it's 100% L t. triangulum. White specling on the dorsal blotches, ultra light (almost white)bands and reddish brown blotches. A cool snake for sure.

Might it be a "Monster Island" animal?

"Might it be a "Monster Island" animal?"

That's a very strong possibility Cole. I was thinking the very same thing as soon as I saw it. There were some "anerythristics" known from that locale.

Cool Eastern there BTW!..

Yeah, I remember those too! This one is from way south of there, GA/AL/Tenn border area. NW GA. I can take pics of it one day, he sent me those from a phone.

Oh, okay. Yeah, that is a cool looking big Eastern, and it does seem to be anerythristic by the looks alone. The voided "frosted" areas in the saddle blotching would likely be the missing red pigment (erythrin) as well. Ya don't see many (if any) Eastern triangulum that aren't solid colored in their saddle blotching as you know.

Best of luck with that cool specimen, and proving it out genetically!..

That is definitely a cool animal. I have a hatchling sort of like that I posted a few days ago. If you can get some better shots I would love to see them!!!

It reminds me of some triangulum I got back a long time ago from Matt Whiles. Forget the co but his adults he had were gray like that and were just spectacular animals all juveniles had deep brick red saddles. His adults looked like they were anery but werent and they were definatly from Ga I will facebook him and ask what co. and see if he can send me a pic

Brandon, he also had some incredible mole kings from back in the day (90's). He had a great locale for them. Where is he now?

Did he produce that particular eastern? He is in Ill now according to face book, he accepted my request a long time ago, I messaged him but no reply he probably doesnt get on it much..But one thing is for certain he had some nice animals, probably has some awesome photos of some stuff from ks to...

Hey Paul

When Martyn texted me pics of that I asked if it was a hybrid Triangulum x getula!!! Never seen one like that. I knew they grow things big in GA but damn that thing is huge!!! Thanks for posting.

Dave, that snake is good sized, its a boy. I have collected several many years ago that were over 40". This one is not that big. Maybe Marty's hands are small...LOL.

forget if it's axanthic/anerythristic or if some type of hypo... how big is that thing? It looks freaking huge!

Congrats to your buddy... I don't think I would have passed that up if I'd seen it at a show.

Very nice eastern. It looks a lot like one from TN (if I remember correctly) that Brian Mason posted during the milk-a-thon this past winter.
