possible IBD..Please help

spoonie Oct 05, 2003 06:19 PM

My 2 year old female boa has been showing possible signs of ibd. ie:resting head and upper body up against the walls, refusing food, and lethargy when handled. I am getting her into the vet but just wondering if these are signs of ibd, or something else, also is ibd easily diagnosed?? any info would be greatly appreciated

Resting the head and upper body against the side of the cage is not a sign of IBD. Lethargy and anorexia may be, but not necessarily. In fact, these are more likely signs of some husbandry related issue than IBD, for instance improper temperatures.

The normal symptoms of IBD in Boas is "star-gazing' or other signs of neurological problems, regurgitating, stomatitis, and respiratory infection.

I have no experience with IBD, but what you describe sounds like a significant respiratory infection.

The snake rests it's head/upper body up the side of the enclosure to facilitate breathing. If your snake does indeed have RI you will probably need some antibiotics.

Good luck.
