Pedialyte

geckguy Oct 05, 2003 06:21 PM

I have a green and black auratus that hasnt gained weight like my others, I am worried he isnt eating, i wanted to try a pedialyte bath so he gets some energy and starts eating. Should I try that, I have the unflavored kind. Or should I just let nature take its course, or feed him springtails so they dont stress him out like the fruitflies may be. Thanks for any help.

First try offering it springtails and any other food type. If your frog ignores these foods also, then it may be time to isolate it in a quarantine. This way, it's not bothered by his/her cohabitants and can be monitored easily. I received a cobalt tinc very close to death due to heavy stress during shipping, he wouldn't eat nor move around much for days. I credit the pedialyte baths to his survival. I would warm the pedialyte to room temperature and used a turkey baster to deliver a slow, steady drip over his entire body. Each bath would last for about 4-5 minutes and I administered it 3-4 times a day. He slowly regained his health and began feeding about 10 days after receiving him. Pedialyte can be rather expensive, so I recommend the off-brand at Wal-mart, it'll save you about $2.50.
Hope this helps and Good Luck!!

when i used the room temp pedialyte, i would soak my frogs in a little cup for about an hour. enough so they wouldn't drown. they seemed to perk up after the soak. i would just quarentine the frog so you can moniter its food intake.
