photographing Anery BRBs

RainbowsByDesign Jul 30, 2012 09:13 AM

I have been trying to take some photos to update my website. It has been a long time sense I’ve worked on it and a lot has changed. Some snake where sold others are just bigger and deserving of up dated photos. But the biggest change is that I have doubled my collection over this year. So it goes without saying the website needs to be updated. To begin I thought I would just start taking a few pictures a night until they where all photographed. I don’t have a photo-shop program so I was experimenting with the Anerys and which background would most accurately portray what they look like. As many of you know the background and lighting can have a dramatic effect on the way the BRB appears. So here are a few backgrounds that I thought helped capture what my Anery BRBs actually look like.

I am also terrible at naming animals!!! So I was watching an old south park episode where they were making fun of Snookie from Jersey Shores. So this little girl got the name Snookie

I think I need better lighting but the red background looks best to me. What do you thing?

Using the red background I took photos of my other 2 Anerys as well.

This is Dax my original male form Brian Sharp.

And this last one is Bender (I was watching Futurama) that I picked up this year from Dave Colling.

Thank you for your time and I hope that you enjoyed some of the photos. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I am hoping to photograph either the pearls or the lateral strips tonight.

Nice collection of anery BRBs there! I agree that the red is a good choice for them. Since they are lacking red pigment, the red background will help draw out that contrast.

Definitely need better lighting for the shots and as Cliff said, if there is any doubt go with a solid background like a white or black.

Thanks Cliff and Chris,

I am definitely not a photographer. I actually have to force myself to sit down and do it. I envy everyone out there that can to take flawless photos that really create eye-popping pictures.

Chris, I actually had some photos of the Anerys on a black background and they where just lost in it. The snakes are so dark to begin with that they where nearly invisible against the black background. I tried a few different white backgrounds but wasn’t really happy with the way they where looking.

I think that I will have to photograph each snake against several backgrounds to choice what looks the best. I am try to do my best being as these are going to be for my website but I have been ‘underwhelmed’ with what I’ve done so far. I may end up hiring someone.

Thank you for your time

First off, Great looking animals!

Secondly, don't feel alone when it comes to feeling like you're having trouble taking good true color pictures of your animals, I totally suck at it, pretty sure I'm worse than what I'm seeing from you! lol

Not sure where you are, but if you're anywhere near NY I could do the photos for you. I have a small photography business on the side and shooting pets is one of the services.

Nice collection of Anerys you have there!! Best advice i can give you for taking photos, is stop using your iPhone4 to take them with!!! Invest in a good Digital SLR, and 99% of the work is done for you.
For 600 dollars, you should be able to get yourself something like a Canon 550d, and you will notice results immediately.

cheers

That is great advice Dave, I do normally use my iPhone. I bought a digital camera a while ago but lost the charging cord I will have to get another one before I continue with my photographing.

That's impressive that you knew I was using my iPhone
