Identify my king?

tymonster Aug 03, 2012 01:13 AM

Hey guys I'm new to this forum and would love some help more specifically indentifying my so called Cal King. I purchased this beauty from petsmart so I'm pretty sure it was sold as the wrong species or subspecies. I'm no expert and figured I'd come see who is! On reddit some guy said its probably a king corn hybrid but I'm not sure.

Yeah, forget about what those dorks told you about it being a Cal. king or corn x king, it is a Florida kingsnake (L.g.floridana) aka "Brook's kingsnake.

Some bloodlines and individuals can start out with lots of reds and orange/yellow and this gradually changes into more golden yellows just as yours did. Depending on the locale, bloodline, or morph, they can be HIGHLY variable.

I'm gonna say its a Florida King crossed with something like a Eastern . Doesn't look to have anything outside of Lampropeltis in it. The low crossbar count is what makes me question it being a Brooksi or South Florida king. Regardless it's a beautiful King.

I'd side with brooksi X goini.

After I looked at more of those pics than I did earlier, it does seem to have some percentage of other influence going on with it.
