Need some help with questions about baby leo please...

eskadol Oct 05, 2003 07:59 PM

Hey,

Well I'm buying this little baby "hypo tangerine" baby leo, sending payment tommarrow. And had some questions about it, you guys could maybe help me with.

I was wandering If anybody who is familiar with hpyo tangerines/carrot-tailes could give me a description, on maybe how this baby will turn out.. If he will become a baldy? and will his orange become more intense? or just more a yellowish color?

Here's the picture of him :

Hi,

It is very hard to tell at that age what they will look like when they get older. If the parents are Hypo Tangerine Baldies then this one MIGHT be a baldy, but that is not gauranteed. It does look like it will be a hypo, but only time will tell what he/she will be for sure.

I once hatched out a baby that looked like it was going to be a hypo tangerine baldy, even after about 2 1/2 months she showed no signs of getting spots on her head, but by the time she was 4 months old she had a bunch of spots on her head and body.

Either way, that is a very pretty gecko.

Hope that helped.

I agree. Only time would tell. Leos are unpredictable at what theylle turn out from a young age. Ive seen juvi baldy's that developed spots, and 'un'baldy's that turned baldy. hope that made sense.

Beautiful gecko by the way.

I’ve got to remind you that leos color and pattern can change a lot as they grow older. This is why you will see some of the more exclusive breeders selling leos at 30-45 grams. It is my opinion that this is when they are in their prime, and are showing them most extreme color that they ever will. I’m sure here are some exceptions to that.
I have two clutch mates that I’m hoping will go hypo, but again they are changing almost every other day as far as ‘hyponess’ and color.
The one thing I can say is that the leo pictured will most likely be a carrot tail of 10-15%. Young geckos like that usually don’t show much CT if they are normal. Sure hope you enjoy your new leo, and keep us posted w/ pictures if you can!
