More Ltt from Amherst Co VA (DUW)

Dniles Aug 05, 2012 08:55 PM

My buddy Ryan Ferrell and I spent some time today trading hatchlings and admiring his Ltt collection. He has some of the nicest Ltt I have ever seen. And many of them are WC or F1's from Amherst Co VA.

We snapped some pictures of some of his stuff and mine so here we go.

First up is the one and only Old Yeller - a WC female that Ryan caught a couple years ago. She is really unique. We were so glad to get a clutch from her this year.

We bred Yeller to my male WC from Amherst Co (pictured below - caught by Ryan) and got some killer babies. Some have a yellow tint to them so we're hoping they turn yellow as they age.

My male - we call him Red Male

Some of the babies

This male was #2 pick of the clutch that Ryan traded to me. It does have a hint of yellow but the camera doesn't pick it up very well

This is a female Ryan traded to me. No real signs of yellow but a clean hatchling none the less.

Ryan's #1 pick from the Yeller x Red male clutch was in shed so we will take pictures later. But here is another one from the clutch

Next up is what I consider to be the nicest Ltt I have ever seen. And as a bonus, this is not a line bred animal, it was captive hatched by Ryan after catching a gravid female in Amherst county two years ago.

First up is the female that produced this animal - she was caught by Ryan but now is in my collection and we call her Red Female

And here is a male from her 2010 clutch - he is the best I have seen (Joecop this is the one I was telling you about). This male is in Ryan's collection and will be the sire to several clutches in the future.

And to show you how truely oustanding this male is, here he is with one of his siblings from the same clutch in 2010

And here is his sibling alone - not too shabby himself. Also in Ryan's collection.

Here is Yeller with this awesome male - they will be paired up in 2013. They are unrealated.

I also got a great clutch from the Red female x Red male. sorry I don't have any new pictures of these

Then Ryan has some really nice non locality line bred easterns.

Together

Here is that killer 2010 Amherst Male with the line bred eastern. He is even better in our opinion than this line bred eastern!!

We're looking forward to working with this locality to see what we can produce from some of these incredible animals. I hope you enjoyed.

Wow!

I've never seen anything like that yellow one. All those Easterns look better than most Red Milks I've seen. That one near the end looks like a knoblochi (Mountain King) with the row of circles down its back.

Those are some mind-bending Ltt's.

Thanks Tim. I think the yellow one is unique too and she sure throws nice looking babies!

Great sequence of shots and nice diversity Dave!

This one REALLY stood out from the rest:

Thanks for posting.

Thanks Rusty. That one you like is a 2011. I hope it retains that look into adulthood!

Dave, that is one nice collection of some incredible LTT for sure. That one holdback is certainly one of the best I have seen,(bright, clean) and hopefully one day I can see it in person. I have to say, out of that group my favorite is the "knoblochi" looking critter with the real open background. ( I like when Ltt have a clean open background and smaller saddles, kind of makes them look different then the red milk or coastal look). I also love "sunshine" the yellow LTT. VERY cool brother. I cannot wait to see what sunshine and the red male produce, and also would love to see what the knob looking one turns out like. Stellar.

Thanks Joe. I thought you would enjoy that post. We do have to meet up in September to do some herping.

No question Dave. No need to go right now that is for sure, unless you like finding lots of garters and racers only.

Have to agree with Joe on the "knoblochi" looking eastern. Love the near perfect and exaggerated alternates on that animal.

I've seen one other yellow-ish eastern similar to that from MD but that was some years ago and I don't recall the details or where it might be now.

Thanks for posting these. Love the nominate form.

Man Dave those are some of the nicest Ltt's Ive ever seen as well, I think those look like they have some temporalis influence in them, yellow temporalis was a common trate for them and that red female looks a lot like temporalis how the bands go down to the ventral side plus her color screams temporalis as well, that is an awesome locale of milk snakes, definately not the typical easterns there, some stunning animals!

Very beautiful animals!!! But that one towards the bottom with the high whitesides is best looking Red Milk ever.

Awesome as usual Dave!

Disclaimer: I do keep several snakes in pairs, and some in groups. However I realize that things can go wrong, and I have to keep a close eye on those groups, to be sure they are not being adversely affected by these living conditions. Also if one happens to eat it's cagemate, it is 100% my fault, and I know the risks in advance!

Good stuff, there, Dave! There are some rockin' animals in this post!

You know, the more I look at that yellow Eastern and compare it to those special, yellow/tan sysila we've both worked with, I wonder if the same genetic thing isn't going on with both. Thoughts?
