Superfire/black eye leucistic?

gila91 Aug 06, 2012 06:08 PM

I am curious why we don't see more superfire/black eye leucistics around? The blue eye leucys are nice, but I personally prefer the look of the black eye leucys. Aside from the frequent yellow blotches, are there any issues with this morph?

I just produced my first two black eye leucys from a fire x fire crossing and neither one has any yellow spotting at all. The adults were purchased as hatchlings as a gift for me from Mike Wilbanks stock a couple of years ago.

Out of a clutch of 4 I got 1 normal 1 fire and 2 leucistics (the statistics really worked in my favor!). Here is a picture of the two leucys.

Those are some clean looking black eye lucy's you hatched out. I know you were stoked seeing two lucy's. Congrats... The black eyes are starting to win me over. I might have to jump into that mutation sometime soon.

I also like Black eyed Lucys better than Clue Eyed Lucys...Too bad that many of them have yellow blotches...Those are very clean! Congrats!

I'm surprised to see that it seems like you think of the yellow blotches as an issue rather than a plus. With all of the white snakes the yellow blotches are an added bonus. The sulfur makes nice blotches in my opinion, not a distraction.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I suppose.

I do prefer the pure white leucistics to ones with patches of color (whatever that color may be).

By issues I mostly meant health issues associated with the morph, though I guess I wasn't very clear about that. Color/pattern preferences are very subjective so different people are going to like different things and that's just fine. I wasn't so much interested in opinions on who likes or doesn't like the morph (though I do appreciate the earlier compliments on my picture), just any problems with health, feeding or husbandry people may have had with them that may be tied to the genes.

Beautiful snake.

There are no known health issues with the super form. They eat well and reach maturity at the same time as any other morph. They breed and lay fertile clutches that contain viable offspring.
