An all black boa - the Leopard Motley

kblumenthal Aug 08, 2012 02:57 PM

Here's my final and definitely most anticipated litter of the year. The litter was delivered 95 days POS with no slugs or yolk sacs. The end results - 4 Leopards, 1 het Leopard, 1 Motley het Leopard, and 1 Leopard Motley.

Pic of mom (Colombian Motley het Leopard) produced by Bill Kirby:

Pic of dad (Leopard) produced by Hans Winner:

The little goodies:

The Leopard Motley:

A few closeups of the little guy:

The Leopard Motley seems to be doing well (normal movement and flicking of tongue), and has the same shape & head size of a Leopard. Hopefully using a Leopard/Motley combo will be a way to produce solid color boas in the future, but only with time and future breedings will we know for sure. I can't wait for this guy to shed so I can take some really good pics of him...
Thanks for looking, and I will be sure to post future updates!

I'm jealous...

When Bill Kirby made those hets, I don't remember for sure if I said it first to Bill, but what you got is exactly what I thought could happen! Congrat to both you and Bill Kirby for doing that breeding several years back and for you getting it done this year! This is very exciting indeed!

I have been trying to get my male Leopard to make babies with a Motley for the past 3 or 4 seasons. Alas, no MOtleys het Leopard for me...

But great for you and encouraging for the entire Boa world! The "Red Devil", alive, and healthy, complete with a head this time, is just around the corner when you get a little Hypo into that project!

Wow, thanks Jeff! To make you jealous is something indeed . I was really pleasantly surprised and relieved to see what popped out.
I wouldn't give up your male Leopard just yet. I think you just need to sit down with him and let him know what the deal is!
As you have said before, the future looks bright in the Boa world, especially with all the cool morphs that have yet to be created....Hopefully the "Red Devil" will become a reality after all.
Thanks again for the kind words, and keep up the great work Mr. Boaphile!
